We spend part of our investigations asking questions in hopes of getting responses. We do get answers to some of these questions but far more often we record seemingly random statements, words, questions and at time requests. When we receive answers to questions that we are later able to verify it leads me to believe that at least some of the voices we record are from an intelligent haunting and that they are able to “see” us or at the very least hear us. The more random voices we capture, however, makes me wonder if all the spirits we encounter are truly aware of what has happened to them, or even that they have passed.
This EVP falls under the latter…
Laurie recorded this EVP during our first investigation of The Lawrenceville Historic Cemetery in Lawrenceville, GA. The voice she recorded isn’t answering a question but instead asks one of its own. The question he asks opens even more questions that, as an investigator, I have to consider. Is he aware he has died? Is he talking to us? If not, who is he talking to? Or… Are we recording a moment in history where this question was asked of someone he was with?
Casey captured this creepy voice during one of our investigations of the pass. What makes this EVP interesting is the events leading up to it being recorded. The team was on the trails on the lake side of the pass when they all saw a dark figure of a man ahead of them. The figure looked to be an actual person so the team called out to it to say hello and to see who it was. This caused the man to take off running through the woods. Tim, being in law enforcement and fearing that the individual messing with us, gave chase. Chasing the figure through the woods Tim caught up to him just as the trail took a sharp turn. The man ran straight at the bend and off the side of a small cliff vanishing into the night sky. Tim was so close to the form that he couldn’t see that the cliff was coming and luckily caught hold of a tree to keep from falling off the cliff. It was just after this that the recorder picked up this male sounding voice. At the end of the clip you will hear Casey saying “dang”.

What we hear is “excuse me!” in a very creepy voice.
Here is an EVP we recorded during our first investigation of FlameTree Glass in Roswell, GA.
Ed captured this EVP during the final sweep of our investigation. We decided that since the owners where present and they are the ones that reported the activity, we would include them in the final extended EVP session. In this clip you will hear Ed asking Lance and Maureen to go to where they would normally be sitting. While he is saying this he also recorded a nice EVP.

We hear a voice mockingly repeat the owners name… “Lance”
This EVP was recorded by Laurie during our first investigation of an ongoing investigation that lasted well over a year. The family felt that they are being haunted by a 16 year old girl, named Pearle, who was killed in 1910 in a kerosene explosion. It is also believed that there are several more spirits either in the home or on the grounds. After our four investigations of the home we tend to agree with them.
Laurie captured this EVP of Ed asking “Would you like to tell us your name?” and after a short pause you will hear the response that shocked us all.

You probably figured it out before clicking here just by the description written in the paragraph above. We hear “Pearle”.
Laurie got this Evp at Hell’s Church while she and Michele were sitting on a bench in the cemetery. Laurie had just thanked them for allowing her to sit on their bench and was saying that it was very comfortable when this EVP was recorded. Although this EVP is faint it is Very clear, listen in the middle of the clip. It starts before Laurie says “ehhh” and ends before she sniffs.
Ed captured this incredible EVP on our first investigations of the Soldier’s Cemetery. We felt that what Ed recorded seemed to sound like a Native American voice. We set out to find a answer and after some hard work for some of our investigators we found that we were correct. We have had this EVP listened to by two different translators who both said that the dialect is an old Creek Indian language and they both were able to translate it for us.
During one of our sweeps of the cemetery the sensitive on Ed’s team began feeling uncomfortable. We pulled to team out and asked them if they wanted to go back in and of course they did, so we replaced the sensitive with one from the other team and sent them back in. It was at this point we recorded a voice asking us why we came back after we had said we were leaving, saying roughly “I thought you said you where leaving”. This is also one of the clearest EVP’s we’ve ever recorded.
I think this question has to be the single most asked question I get, followed closely by “how do I know it isn’t a demon?” or “Isn’t it a demon since it isn’t in heaven or because it’s away from God?” All are great questions and are actually more similar than you would think at first. But, to start this explanation let me establish a really simple ground rule. A ghost is a ghost and a demon is a demon. Demons never were human or even “alive” and by alive I refer to life as we know it as living beings on this earth. Demons started off in whatever state we call the “afterlife” and were never born to this world. But this is a topic for another post. I am also not going to get into Heaven and Hell, and judgement in this post because here I am addressing the Ghost, not where it goes after dying, depending on how it lived it’s life.
So, What is a ghost?
Ghosts are simply you and me, our fathers and mothers, sons, daughters and grandparents. They are people that for whatever reason haven’t quite moved on yet. In my belief I know that they will, at some point, move on to heaven. I believe that for the vast majority of us the transition takes place quickly if not instantaneously. I think we are off to join loved ones without much thought and probably little choice. But, for some the process doesn’t happen like it does for most of us and for whatever reason when they die it isn’t automatic. They may see the “light” or whatever conduit is there to help us move on but now, faced with a choice, they aren’t quite ready to go through it. Maybe, for some, they are afraid to go through it because in their eyes, it shouldn’t be here and through it means judgement or the God that shouldn’t exist.
Some may be hesitant to leave because of love. Think for a minute about that little old couple we’ve all seen walking down the sidewalk or through the mall. They walk hand in hand as they have for 70 years until one day, he passes away. Now, remember that sometimes it isn’t automatic and he finds himself standing there knowing he should go on to heaven but he wants to wait on her so they can go through together. In terms of eternity time isn’t time like we know it and years flash by in the blink of an eye. He still waits for his wife to join him unaware that she passed years ago and she’s now waiting on him in heaven. Hundreds of years go by as people talk about seeing the ghost of an old man in a now haunted house. Does this make him evil or a demon or simply a sweet old man looking for his wife?
What about freewill? As awful a thought of a child dying is, let’s consider another scenario where I can touch base on both free will and another frequently asked question. When I am talking to people it’s about now that I get asked “what about children?” and “how can God leave behind a child?”. The answer is simple… He Doesn’t! Take the ghost of a little boy that passed and again, like above, he doesn’t move on to heaven right away. He sees the light and maybe even sees his “Nanna” standing in it calling him to come and go with her to heaven. But… there’s that apple tree he always wanted to play on but was never allowed. He’s a kid after all and just like when he was alive he still has freewill, so off he runs to the tree. He plays for just a little bit but he leaves us talking for years about the haunted, creepy giggles of a child out by the old gnarled apple tree. Is this ghost something scary?
You can argue that both of these people or ghosts are away from God, but I would have to ask “Are they really?” and if they are “How long are they away from God?”. A blink of an eye? Hundreds of years may be a long time here but I’m not about to think I understand God’s timeframe. In these cases, I believe God simply tells those waiting on them in heaven, “Don’t worry… They’ll be here in a second.”.
I have to think that the saddest part to these ghost stories would be when we as investigators forget who they are and burst into the home or storm the apple tree calling them names or taunting them in ways we would never do to their faces were they alive.
So, What is a ghost?
Simply put, a ghost is someone that hasn’t moved on yet. Let’s make sure we aren’t forgetting the “someone” part.
During our investigation of Scarlett O’Hara’s in St Augustine, Florida Paul captured this EVP that wasn’t an EVP. What we captured in this clip is Almost the creepiest sound we have ever caught. If you feel like you aren’t quite getting the entire picture just listen, this clip is fairly pretty self explanatory… and there’s a reason it made the blooper reel.

This clip shows the importance of owning up to some of the crazy sounds our bodies can make. I love Paul’s reaction when learning the True origin of the noise.
If you hang around with us long enough and get us talking about some of our best investigations the story of Three Bears will certainly come up. This story is also featured on one of the Marietta Squares’ walking ghost tours. We were on the upper floor in the hallway between the front of the building and the projection room that faces toward the back of the main room below. Tim and Kevin were smelling roses or a rose smelling perfume as they started encountering a cold spot that would move between the investigators. In the clip below you can hear us as we discover that the cold spot also had high EMF readings. Wherever we would feel the cold spot we could put an EMF meter into it and the reading would jump from our baseline of 0.6 to as much as 4.3, on the clip below, and as high as 5.6 before we lost the cold spot. As we were trying to de-bunk the high meter readings we got with the cold spot we started checking in the small area just off the hall but beside where we caught the high EMF. We wanted to make sure that we weren’t picking up the high EMF near the wall of this area. Tim stepped past us and into the room at the end of this small area, as he did the door slammed behind him. This is captured on the second clip below.
The cold spot encounter with EMF Readings.
The de-bunking EMF reading when door slams.
*WARNING* This clip does contain a cuss word as the slamming door catches Tim off guard.
Elizabeth recorded these Two EVP’s during our first investigation of this plantation in Northeast Georgia. In this recording Elizabeth is wearing headphones and was actually able to hear the first voice as she recorded it. The Evp’s are very faint and the first one can be heard right as the recording starts and way before you hear Elizabeth start talking. Michele asks what she is referring to when they both heard an answer. Although these are very faint once you hear them and realize that because of being able to hear an EVP as it was recorded we were able to get a response. These are really cool.

In this recording they actually tell you what to listen for. The first EVP says “I’m Guilty” and the second says “me”. The Second is VERY hard to hear but you can hear it just before Ed starts to respond too and there may be a third “me” at the end of Ed talking (between the two times Michele asks “who said me?”)
